As Disney fans prepare to say goodbye to MuppetVision 3D, signs point to the company taking steps to preserve the beloved attraction — at least behind the scenes.
Disney Parks has invited Cast Members to participate in a “Filming Event Archiving MuppetVision 3D!” ahead of the attraction’s closure. Sources indicate that filming is currently scheduled to take place early in the morning on May 14, from 3:30 AM to 7:30 AM, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.
While Disney has not officially confirmed whether this recording will be released to the public, the working title suggests it’s an archival effort. This aligns with Disney’s previous statement that it is “having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”
Whether that means a future release on Disney+, inclusion in a museum exhibit, or something else remains to be seen.
MuppetVision 3D is set to close on June 7, 2025, making way for a new Monstropolis Monster’s Inc themed area.
Since its opening in 1991, MuppetVision 3D has held a special place in fans’ hearts as one of the last projects Jim Henson worked on before his passing.
While the future of the attraction may be uncertain, this filming effort is a sign that Disney is working to ensure the Muppets’ legacy and this fan-favorite experience lives on in some form.
