Disney is expensive. Everyone knows it.
Tickets. Food. Resorts. Souvenirs. It adds up fast. And if you’re a parent planning a trip, you already know every decision comes with a price tag.
But here’s the truth. Not every extra at Disney. World is a waste. Some are absolutely worth it. They make your trip smoother, save time, and give your family the kind of moments you never forget.
I’ve paid for all of these myself. Not as a reviewer or influencer, but as a dad who wants his kids to have a great vacation. Some of these cost a little. Some cost a lot. Every one of them delivered something special.
Let’s start with the ones that give you something every parent needs on a Disney trip. Peace of mind.
1. Fireworks Dessert Party at Magic Kingdom

Best for: Families with kids who want a stress-free way to watch Happily Ever After
Cost: $99–$109 per adult, $59 per child
If you’ve ever tried to watch fireworks at Magic Kingdom without a plan, you already know the chaos. You stand shoulder to shoulder for nearly an hour. The kids are tired. Everyone’s cranky. You’re holding snacks, strollers, and phones just trying to make it to showtime.
The Fireworks Dessert Party changes all of that.
You get a reserved viewing area right in front of Cinderella Castle. You can walk up a few minutes before the show starts and still have a perfect view. You actually get to enjoy the fireworks instead of fighting for a spot.

There are two versions. The pre-party and the post-party. Both include a full spread of desserts and drinks at Tomorrowland Terrace. My family always books the pre-party because once the fireworks end, our kids are ready to call it a night. If you like to stay later, the post-party is a great option.
It’s not cheap, but this upgrade isn’t about cupcakes. It’s about calm. It’s about ending your night with happy kids and a stress-free view of one of the best fireworks shows on earth.
For families with little ones, the Fireworks Dessert Party is worth every penny.
2. Caring for Giants at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Best for: Families who love animals and want something educational and different
Cost: $39 per person (ages 4 and up)
Caring for Giants is one of the most affordable behind-the-scenes tours at Walt Disney World. It’s also one of the most meaningful.
This 60-minute experience takes you backstage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to meet the cast members who care for the park’s elephants. You’ll stand just 80 to 100 feet away from these amazing animals, hear about conservation efforts, and learn what goes into their daily care.
It’s not a thrill ride, and that’s exactly why it’s special. Kids get to see a side of Disney that feels real and personal. It’s hands-on, educational, and surprisingly peaceful.
You do need a park ticket to Animal Kingdom to take part, so plan it as part of your park day. You’ll check in near Kilimanjaro Safaris and head backstage from there.
At $39 a person, Caring for Giants is one of those rare Disney experiences that delivers incredible value for the cost.
3. Starlight Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Best for: Animal lovers and families with older kids
Cost: $75–$89 per person (ages 8 and up)
The Starlight Safari at Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of Disney’s most underrated experiences. Imagine taking a nighttime safari with night vision goggles as you spot giraffes, zebras, and other animals moving quietly through the savanna.
The experience is calm, quiet, and completely different from what you see on the regular Animal Kingdom safari. It feels like a secret side of Disney that most guests never notice.
The tour runs twice each night, usually around 8:30 p.m. and again closer to 10:00. You don’t have to be staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge to book it, but it’s a perfect add-on if you are.
This is a great option for families who want something unique to do on a rest day or evening away from the parks.
At around $75 to $89 per person, it’s an unforgettable experience that feels far more exclusive than the price suggests.
4. Savi’s Workshop: Building a Lightsaber in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Best for: Star Wars fans and families looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience
Cost: $274 per builder, includes one guest to accompany them
Savi’s Workshop isn’t just about building a lightsaber. It’s about stepping into the story.
Inside a small, hidden workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios, guests are guided by “Gatherers” who teach the lore of the Jedi and the power of kyber crystals. You’ll choose your hilt, your color, and assemble your own custom lightsaber. The entire experience feels cinematic.
It’s expensive at $274 per person, but this is not a toy. It’s a heavy, movie-quality collectible that comes with an emotional payoff you don’t get from most souvenirs.
I’ve done this experience twice —once with each of my older kids. Watching their faces light up when their lightsabers came to life was one of those core Disney moments I’ll never forget.
Each builder can bring one guest, so plan accordingly. If you’re a Star Wars fan or raising one, this is a “splurge” that’s worth it every single time.
5. Disney Memory Maker: The Photo Package That’s Actually Worth It
Best for: Families who want all their vacation photos without the stress of taking them
Cost: $185 when purchased before your trip
If you’ve ever come home from Disney and realized you have hundreds of photos of your kids but none of you, Memory Maker is the fix.
This photo package gives you unlimited downloads of all ride photos, character meets, and every shot taken by Disney PhotoPass photographers across the parks. You can take as many photos as you want, anywhere, and they all show up in your My Disney Experience app without watermarks.
It’s $185 if you buy it before your trip and a little over $200 if you wait until after. Some rides even include short videos now, like Tower of Terror.
To me, this one is a no-brainer. These are the photos that become your family’s Disney story. The ones you’ll look back on years from now.
If you’re heading to Disney with your family, buy Memory Maker in advance. You’ll use it more than you think, and it’s absolutely worth the money.
6. Capture Your Moment: Disney’s Hidden Gem Photo Session

Best for: Families celebrating a special trip or milestone
Cost: $99 for a 20-minute private session
If you love photos but want something more personal than Memory Maker, Capture Your Moment is a hidden gem. It’s a private photo session with a Disney PhotoPass photographer inside the park.
You get twenty minutes, one photographer, and access to areas that are a little quieter and more scenic than the usual photo spots. The photographers know all the best angles, and because it’s private, your photos don’t have crowds in the background.
You can choose sessions in any of the four parks. You can even book two sessions back-to-back for forty minutes if you want more variety.
It’s perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, or just capturing your family together in the park. For $99, it feels like a professional photo shoot inside Walt Disney World.
A lot of guests don’t even know this option exists, which makes it one of my favorite “hidden extras.” It’s quick, affordable, and the photos always come out incredible.
7. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique: A Fairytale Makeover for Kids

Best for: Families with kids who love princesses or princes
Cost: $99–$450 depending on package
This one is pure Disney magic.
At Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, kids ages three to twelve can transform into their favorite princess or prince with help from their very own Fairy Godmother-in-Training. Hair, makeup, outfit — the works.
The experience starts at $99 if you bring your own dress, which is what we’ve done before. But packages can go over $400 if you choose a deluxe gown. Either way, the transformation is incredible.
I’ve done this with my daughters a few times, and it’s one of those experiences that reminds you why you came to Disney in the first place. Watching their faces light up when they see themselves in the mirror never gets old.
And yes, there are knight and prince options for boys too, complete with a sword, shield, and a little extra hair gel.
If you’re looking for something special that your child will remember for a long time, this is it. Whether you choose the basic or signature package, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is absolutely worth the splurge.
8. Disney After-Hours and Holiday Parties: The Extra Tickets That Are Worth It
Best for: Families visiting in the fall or winter who want unique entertainment and lighter crowds
Cost: Varies by event, typically $159–$189 per person
Disney’s holiday and after-hours parties are some of my favorite experiences in all of Walt Disney World. They might look expensive on paper, but when you add up what you get, they’re absolutely worth it.
Events like After Hours, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios all bring something completely different to the parks. You get themed parades, rare character meet-and-greets, and exclusive snacks and shows you won’t see during regular park hours.
One of the best perks is early entry. Even though the parties start around 7 p.m., you can usually get into the park as early as 4 p.m. That gives you eight hours of park time on one ticket.
The crowds aren’t always lower, but they’re spread out. Most guests are watching shows or meeting characters, so wait times for rides are often shorter. That balance makes the night feel relaxed and fun instead of rushed.
My family likes to plan a slow resort morning, maybe a pool day, then head into the party rested and ready. Between the atmosphere, entertainment, and special fireworks, these parties always feel worth it.
If you’re planning a trip during the holidays, these events are the best way to make your visit feel extra special.
9. Disney Private VIP Tour: The Ultimate Stress-Free Park Day
Best for: Large families or groups who want a custom, time-saving Disney experience
Cost: $450–$900 per hour, minimum of 7 hours, up to 10 guests
If you’ve ever dreamed of skipping every line at Disney, this is the way to do it.
The Disney World Private VIP Tour is one of the most expensive experiences at Walt Disney World, but it’s also one of the most impressive. You get a private guide who takes your group wherever you want to go. You can visit multiple parks, ride your favorite attractions with Lightning Lane access, and end your day watching fireworks from a reserved area in Magic Kingdom.
The hourly rate changes depending on the time of year and crowd levels, but here’s how the math works. If you book at the lower end of pricing, around $450 an hour for seven hours, that’s roughly $3,150. Split between ten people, it comes to about $315 per person.
When you consider that you’re skipping wait times, getting front-row fireworks viewing, and having all four parks at your fingertips, it’s a surprisingly strong value for larger groups.
If you want a once-in-a-lifetime, completely stress-free Disney day, this is it.
For families who like structure and want to make the most of their time, the VIP Tour is one of the few big-ticket experiences that really delivers.
Final Thoughts: What’s Really Worth the Money at Disney World
Not every Disney upgrade is worth it. Some look great online but don’t add much to your trip once you’re there. These nine are different.
Each one gives something back to your family. Sometimes it’s time. Sometimes it’s calm. Sometimes it’s a memory that sticks with you long after the trip is over.
That’s how I decide what’s “worth it.” If it adds peace or creates a lasting memory, it’s usually a yes.
Disney will always have new experiences to tempt you. You don’t need to do them all. But when you pick the ones that truly fit your family, you’ll come home knowing every dollar made sense.
If you’re planning your next trip and trying to figure out what to include, I’d love to help. You can start with a free quote for your next vacation or reach out through The Magic For Less Travel to plan a trip that’s easy, fun, and made for your family.
Because the real magic isn’t in doing everything. It’s in doing the right things — together.
